British Shorthair

The cat breed, the british shorthairs origins are those of native working cats. Ancestors of the British Shorthair survived years of superstition and persecution, when thousands of cats were killed. A dedicated breeder in the 1930's said "..the ordinary garden cat has survived every kind of hardship and persecution. That he exists at all, is tribute to his strength of character and endurance." At the beginning Blue was the only recognized colour and the British Shorthair is of a medium build. It is a sturdy cat with a semi-cobby body. The head is broad and round with a firm chin.

This cat breed is a very independent one, yet extremely affectionate. They are very alert and quizzical and enjoy following their human pets around the house. The males are very people oriented and although quiet take no-nonsense. British shorthairs are easy to groom as their fur does not tangle. They make ideal pets for busy or quiet households.
